HATS: Each year we collect children’s hats to donate to the Cortland City Police Department. Officers go into the kindergarten classes to distribute those hats to the youngest school kids. This program is a great way for the Officers and kids to start their relationship off on a positive note and the kids love getting to pick out their very own hat. Thank you to all who have donated in the past – keep ‘em coming there are new kindergarteners every year! Each children’s hat you donate earns you a raffle ticket toward the random drawing for $50 to be spent with the seminar vendors. 25 hats equals 25 chances to win – and all the kids get to win too!

Today, Officer Wenz and I went to Smith Elementary School and Parker Elementary School to talk about kindness. The Silver Needles Knitting Club has worked tirelessly all year long in making warm winter hats and has donated them to the Office of Community Oriented Policing for a second year in a row. Each kindergarten student from both schools received a hat!
Please donate hats without names on them as we wish to keep the children safe!
